Panera Bread at the GROCERY STORE?! SUPERCHEF VS SUPERMARKET
Summary
Darnell tackles Panera Bread's grocery store mac and cheese and it's a disaster. Nearly 1,000 calories per container, 96% of your daily sodium, and a whopping $8.99 price tag for what tastes mostly like cream and milk with barely any cheese flavor. The noodles stay firm, sure, but this white cheddar situation is underwhelming compared to what you'd get at the actual restaurant. Darnell gives it a D-minus across the board. Nutrition gets an F, taste gets a D-plus, and the price is completely out of control for a bowl of mediocre pasta. Hard pass on this one.

All right
So, we have seen many, many restaurants convert over [music] to supermarkets selling their products
So, on this episode, Super Chefer Supermarket, let's try out the Big Dogs today
Panera Bread, people
Let's see if this mac and cheese
I could get the family size, but I'm going to save a
little money today cuz I told you they don't give us this stuff for free
So, let's see if it tastes like it does in their stores. [music] And I don't even know if it's good to store
I've never had Panera Breads Mac and Cheese
So, let's see if it's even worth it. [music]
Welcome to Super First Supermarket
Now we here to get you
And um we tried out, you know, Panera Bread Mac and Cheese
Original
You know what I'm saying? Original
Um everything doesn't always translate to [music] um packaging
So let's see if this translates from the gross the
restaurants, you know, Panera Bread [music] into the actual grocery store
So let's tag this on talk that stuff
I don't most products don't talk that stuff when they got a brand built around them
So Panera Bread, let's see what you say on here
Talk that stuff is when they brag on the container
Panera Bread
says nothing because Panera Bread is Panera Bread
They know you going to get it because you like them already
Um, so let's get into nutrition
Nutrition, nutrition, nutrition
Okay
So, let's get this per They said a serving
Okay
Per container
One container is a
serving size
This is understandable, but it's extreme
Okay. 960 calories
Eat this whole thing. 1,000 calories almost
You know what I'm saying? But, I mean, what you expecting to get for milk and cheese and and noodles? Uh, this amount of it
When it comes to trans fats, oh my gosh.
So, I don't want to overlook too many negatives and like this one has
This is [music] negative down to the core
Like, it has over 100 60% of what you need when it comes to fat
Granted, it's made where's the ingredients at? I mean, it's it's made [music] with pasta and it should be made with like cream. should
say well dry [music] milk not milk fat skim milk like dried cream all that stuff is where you get all that from um cholesterol high sodium extremely high extremely 96% of your daily value 2210 milligram crazy work people so nutrition a f plus
forget get it
Don't look at it when you walk past in the grocery stores
Uh, but this is just one more ancillary thing of their products and their brands like that
The grocery store is making no money
They can't be [music] making that much money off mac and cheese inside the grocery stores
Uh, but F for
selling humankind with this nutritional facts label
Uh, then we have price
Uh, we're going to get to price in one second, but let's go to taste
Let's get taste out the way
All right
You know what I'm saying? I grew up with yellow mac and cheese. never seen white mac and cheese till I got in college
You know
what I'm saying? So, that was new to me that there was mac and cheese, you know, made with mozzarella, parmesan, that kind of stuff
Blew my mind
Uh, so you live
Let's go ahead see what it's like
Oh, it's my water bottle
Well, extremely creamy, rich
Um, noodles [music] are still have life left
in them, which is good cuz I mean noodles sitting in sauce for that long could definitely lose its um stature, but um very milky, light light cheese
Um more of a white cheddar cheese
You know, white cheddar is not as impressive as like yellow, but it it's just it's not really cheesy
Um, [music] so really
milk forward, cream forward, not really cheese forward, but it [music] is thick like you like your mac and cheese
Um, I imagine they use some great [music] preservatives, maybe some Zantham gum in here to help keep it like this, too
Um, tastes D plus
I [music] mean,
if there's people out there that love this, then, you know, we don't have the same polls
Uh, but this is all right
If you like panera bread, I I guess go get you some pretty damn bad mac and cheese
But when it comes to price, was it $8.99? Oh, no
Too much money
Too too too much
Tot mac and cheese at a
restaurant don't cost you $8
Um, but $8.99 D as well
And we've seen different products on here that cost $8.99
We've seen sandwiches
We've seen whole lunch meals that have chicken, spicy chicken, teriyaki with vegetables and rice
And then we [music] just have a bowl of macaroni and cheese with very
little cheese for $8.99
So definitely a D
So yeah, let's get past this product
I don't want to I don't want to linger on too much
This is the Panera Bread Mac and Cheese original
It wasn't horrible
Didn't taste bad
It didn't taste like much
Um but Super Chefer Supermarket
Uh this product I [music]
would say probably one of the ones that's not Super Chef approved
See you next time.
