Summary

Darnell takes Nature's Bakery Fig Bars to the kitchen for the ultimate supermarket showdown. He's grading them on taste, price, nutrition, and how they talk that talk on the packaging. The verdict? They're soft, chewy, and taste fantastic, but those 14 grams of added sugar per bar are a real problem. Darnell won't fail them, but he can't give them higher than a C plus because of the refined sugars and brown rice syrup combo. They're perfect as a once-a-week cheat snack though. Watch to see if Nature's Bakery dethroned the OG Fig Newton.

And today's about exposure, [music] people

People are going to snack

They're going to want something sweet

So, let's see if this is a good item for you to get

This is a I thought it was a fig new

At first, it's not

It's called Nature's Bakery

It's a fig bar

The original [music] fig

Whole grains, real

fruit

Let's take it back and put to the test

Come on, man

Has to taste good

Has to be priced right

Nutrition has to be on point

And let's see how it talks that [music] talk

So, let's take these back to the kitchen

See if you should buy them. [music]

All right, so we back in the kitchen

Super Chef Vers Supermarket, baby

And we are going to try out Nature's Bakery

I like the branding

Good branding

You know what I'm saying? Fig Bar, first of all, we all grew up with the OG

No, no, not publicizing anything, but we all know who the OG is in the Fig [music]

Bar game

Some Fig Newton back in the day

Boy, I don't know

And the thing about it, I think fig noodle is what made me hate raisins when I got ordered

You know what I'm saying? Cuz I hate raisins now

Uh but back to this fig bar

I love it

Let's get straight into this

Man, I love just diving straight

into what we do here [music] for products

You know, we're going to judge this just like they do on competition shows, but we're going to do it on food that matters to you

Things that you can go to the supermarket and buy or you can buy online, get it shipped to your house, [music] all those kind of things.

So, we're going to judge this off of taste, price, nutrition, and how it talks that talk

Meaning, how does it brag on the packaging? Cuz that's what you're going to see really [music] quickly

So, let's see where it talks that talk

What are you saying on this packaging? Whole grains and real fruit.

No high fructose corn syrups, plant-based

Okay

Okay

Okay

Oh, I like it

I like it

Let me see what else it is

Um, no

The little thing on the back says here at Nature's Bakery, we are dedicated to making snacks that are wholesome and is delicious

Everything

you need to know about us is in our name

Well, I'm gonna stop there then

Nature's Bakery

But let's get right into this

All right

Which where should I start today? We got taste

We got price

We got nutrition

Let's do nutrition first

Let's let's knock out the hard thing out the way.

And it's always flavor versus function here

You know what I'm saying? So, let's go function first

Total fat 6% of your I'm gonna go off daily value

Let's go percentages off [music] your daily body

You know what that is, right? Um 200 calories per serving

One package is a serving

Um

I'm going to start opening this while I look at it

When it comes to saturated fats, trans fats, none

Cholesterol zero

Sodium 3%

That's great

Total [music] carbs 13%

Uh dietary fiber 11%

Now, sugars, it's debatable here

Debatable.

The the range of nutrition when it comes to this nutritional [music] facts is based off of 2,000 calories

That's what they're basing off of for a human being

They're that 2,000 calories is not for a kid

And this I feel like for me, like as much as I eat this, I be looking for good snacks for my kids

Like I I ain't

the biggest snacker in the world

But when it comes to added sugars, it's 28% of your daily value. [music] 14 grams of added sugar

I um I [music] pick and choose our foods a lot off the sugar

Like that is a big thing

The country sugar is a drug

You know what I'm saying? So you got to

watch that

Um so that's the negative of this whole thing would be the added sugars

But let's get past it. 3 g of uh protein

When it comes to ingredient, the ingredient list is key because sometimes the carbs are high

Like it matters what's actually inside of it

And the

ingredient list here is first ingredient is whole wheat flour, [music] then fig paste

Good

That's exactly what it should be because it's a baked item with figs [music] inside of it

Um then we have cane sugar, brown rice syrup, canola oil, whole grain oats, glycerin, fruit juice, which is for

color, but it's still sugar

Um sea salt, citric acid, baking soda

That's a pretty good ingredient list

Man, I'm not about to overkill people

I can't stand watching people online that go through these grocery stores and hyper like I mean, there's some things we don't need to know

Like sometimes if

it's clean, it's clean

I don't agree with the sugars. [music] That's the biggest negative of it

Like these are added sugars

I don't know

I don't know why you need brown rice syrup and cane sugar

I I mean brown rice syrup is less sweet than [music] cane

So therefore, the cane sugar is going to dominate

I

mean obviously brown rice syrup is going to have more backing, [music] more flavor, nuttiness, all the good stuff like that

But I mean, when it came to this, the only thing I would change is the added sugars

I I'm not getting into other details. [music] Those are minors to a major

For the sugar, I would have

used date sugar

It seems like [music] date sugar would pair well with figs

Um, it's natural

That's what I would go

I wouldn't go with these [music] uh refined sugars

That would be my only negative

So, with anything that the top [music] three ingredients are sugar,

it's going to be hard for me to grade that over a C

I won't fail you, [music] but it's going to be hard to get a nutritional grade overseas with not natural [music] sugars

It's a huge issue in our country

And um that doesn't mean I wouldn't be eating this

I wouldn't give it to my kids because

they would never eat this every day

No [music] one eats stuff like this every day

And this could be a part of your diet, but you need to be making sure you understand [music] when you eat this

You need to watch out for other things you're going to eat

That's the key to it for me is be conscious when you're

eating things like this. and it could be a total okay part of a diet

It just can't be a staple in it for me

So, when it comes to nutrition, I can't go C++

And that's because of the two the two sugars

I I I can't go there, man

I I just [music] can't

And I like

to look at my notes I take on things sometimes

I'm against refined sugars, thousand%

But I also understand in the right like setting, the right time, and the right scheduling, it's okay to [music] be in your diet every once in a while

If this is what you're going to have one of your

cheat day, I think you're safe

Most people have a cheat day once a [music] week that live a super healthy lifestyle, super active one

They usually give themselves a cheat meal once a week, one cheat meal

I think that's [music] perfectly fine

Make this your cheat snack once a week

I think

you'll be fine living like that

Uh, so let's get the taste, man

Let's get the taste

We didn't did enough talking about nutrition

Nutrition sometimes can bore people

But the thing that bores you is the same thing that could help save your life

Um, taste, taste, taste, taste

Let's get this bad

boy open

Coming for me

I like I told you, man

I was grow I grew up in the '9s, man

When Fake News was popping

Big noodles got some competition now

Let's look at this, man

Perfectly put together

I mean, most I ain't going to knock nothing, but it it it looked like a fake Newton. [music] It looks good.

Good job

M

Not too sweet

I love that

Good

The best way to taste the best way to tell people about it is a raisin

Figs when they're cooked down like this have that raisin flavor in them

The breading does not crumble. is soft like them soft baked tip hoy cookies

that people used to love back in the day

These [music] are that same soft soft chewy breading dough that is right around that fig uh paste that is inside

So really good fig

You like fig um what are they calling this? Fig bar

Great option. [music] Tastewise this is more of the healthier world

I

would say this was a healthier version of a fig bar. [music] Um, so I would say a good B+

A good B+

It does everything that you're looking for to [music] do

Texture is great

The uh fig taste is really really sweet

Really really nutty

Really really just [music]

uh raisiny

So I I think it's a good good fig bar

Taste B

Nutrition C plus C++

I'll see you sometimes throughout the month

Um, but then [music] when it comes to what we got, let's price

Nature bake

Nature [music] bake. $4.99 for six

I think six of them

Let me [music]

come here

Six

You get six swim packs

You get two in each pack. $4.99

Price-wise

I mean, that's good

I mean, I don't know what you want to get them for. $2

Jeez, if it was $2, why would I even be in business? Um, price is good

I I don't I don't see it as a [music] problem

If I had a Yeah, I give it a B+

for price

It's It's pretty [music] right on point

Um so overall, I say I'll give the product a B

I would definitely tell people to buy this

Um good product, good um whole ingredients

And outside of the cane sugar and brown rice syrup

Hey man, you was hitting

You was

hitting [music] man

This Super Sheper Supermarket

This is our Nature's Bake Fig Bar

If you love Fig Bars, if you're trying to get a better option for it, I think this is a good one for you
